This intense collaborative effort was spearheaded and coordinated by Kokoda Youth Foundation, and involved veterans, and local architects and trades. The sculpture represents an Australian serviceman on patrol during the early Vietnam War period. BAIRD VC MOMORIAL SCULPTURE IN DETAILCorporal Cameron Baird, a 2nd Commando Regiment soldier, was mortally wounded while leading his platoon into a known Taliban stronghold in Uruzgan Province Afghanistan n 22 June 2013.His actions in made him the 100th recipient of the Victoria Cross for Australia.The award was given posthumously in February 2014. The monumental sculpture is located at Currumbin RSL, Queensland.
